It makes a great Christmas present.
Thank you for the ‘heads-up’ about the release date – I’ll definitely be buying it for Christmas!
We had a family outing to see it at the Alhambra in Keswick in August and thoroughly enjoyed it (we were all waiting for your appearance at the railway station!). It’s not exactly close to the book, of course… but it captures something of the spirit and the locations (as always) are fantastic. Needless to say, the 1974 film will always be the definitive version for us, but the new one will be a worthy addition to the collection!
So glad to hear you saw the film on the big screen. What was the audience like?
It was the last week of the school holidays, so it was mainly comprised of families, plus a few older folk. The Alhambra is a great cinema, especially to watch a film like that – although it has been modernised, with comfy seats and a big screen etc., it still has an old fashioned feel to it!
Actually, if you go to the Alhambra website and click on the ‘Pictures’ link, there are a few photos from your S&A film too!
That’s amazing. The 1974 film was broadcast in Australia a few weeks ago. I brought out a second edition of the ebook just in time. I must re-publish an updated version of the paperback next. We only have a few copies left, although it can be found in libraries.
I have never been but would love to. It is always a great treat going to the cinema, especially when on holiday.
I haven’t seen this new version yet. I must order a copy, thank you, Sophie, for alerting me to the release.
The 2016 film won a couple of awards in the USA where it was well received.
