My mother, Daphne Neville, who also worked on Swallows & Amazons (1974) appears with Dan Stevens in Summer in February, which is showing in cinemas now. Although she’s a hustler, invitations to take part in both films arrived out of the blue. Here she is 40 years on with Dan Stevens and Dominic Cooper ~

Sophie Neville with Swallow on Coniston Water, Cumbria
Nick Barton of Harbour Pictures, in collaboration with BBC Films, is planning to make a new adaptation of Swallows and Amazons this summer. They hope it will be the new Harry Potter or Chronicles of Narnia franchise.
I joined him and his wife on the first recce to the Lake District in 2011, staying at Bank Ground Farm, sailing Swallow on Coniston Water and taking a boat trip down Lake Windermere. He has been looking for locations with his two Directors, the Guard brothers, who have been busy working on the new script written by Andrea Gibb. Dan Stevens, who played Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey, is to take the part of Captain Flint.
The directors, Charles and Thomas Guard, are short-listing boys and girls aged 7-13 for the parts of the Swallows – John, Susan, Titty and Roger – and the Amazons – Nancy and Peggy Blackett.
The casting is being undertaken by Dixie Chassay Casting for Harbour Pictures. Applicants are asked to email a photo, plus their age and any queries, to: firstname.lastname@example.org
